A credit report is a factual record of an individual’s credit payment history. It is like a snapshot because it reflects information that is current as of that date, but is subject to change. Credit reports are provided to credit lenders for underwriting purpose. The main purpose of a credit report is to help a lender make a decision quickly and objectively about extending credit to an individual.
A credit reporting agency (also called a repository) is a storage center for data which includes credit history and personal information. Credit grantors provide the credit reporting agency with factual information on how their credit customers pay their bills. The credit reporting agency assembles this information, along with public record information obtained from courthouses around the country, into a file on each consumer. In return, credit grantors can obtain credit reports about consumers who wish to open accounts with them.
There are three major credit reporting agencies in the United States; Experian, TransUnion and Equifax. Each one is strongest in a particular geographic area. All will contain an individual’s account, but each will have slightly different information on the same person.
Credit reports are core to CoreLogic Consumer Services' suite of products, and we offer both the 1-Bureau and the 3-Bureau credit reports containing data from the three national credit reporting agencies, Experian, TransUnion and Equifax. Designed for the consumer as the end user, our credit reports provide information maintained by the credit reporting agencies that lenders view every day. They are categorized as "direct-to-consumer" credit reports, and the information is presented in an easy-to-read format to help the consumer to interpret the information.
